About me
I am Francisca Vergara-Pinto, a sociocultural anthropologist, Master in Social Sciences, and PhD student at the Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute, University of Manchester.
I am interested in volcanic cultures, affects and more-than-human perspectives in disaster research. In doing so, I study ethnographically the ways of perceiving, knowing and becoming with volcanism, with an emphasis on the reoccupation of hazardous spaces and emotional geographies. Case study: Lonquimay volcanic complex, and other populated active volcanoes in the Southern Andes. |
Research interests
- Volcanic imaginaries and affects of rural communities in the southern Andes.
- People-centred approaches of disaster risk reduction for a sustainable society-volcano coexistence.
- Redefinition of paradigms, imaginaries and practices of sustainability in the context of climate change.
